This Wasn’t Built in a Garage in Palo Alto
QoEAgent was built in Denver, Colorado — by people who have done the work, not watched it get done.
The Conversation That Started It
In early 2023, Josh Cashman called Tom Yeh with a straightforward question: which accounting and finance tasks was AI actually ready to automate reliably? Not theoretically — concretely, today, for real practitioners.
Tom, a computer science professor and AI researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder, had been working on exactly that question from the machine-learning side. He understood the capabilities and the limits of large language models. What he was looking for was the right domain — a workflow that was rule-structured enough for AI to handle precisely, and painful enough that professionals would actually adopt the solution.
The Wedge
Ron Neufeld identified it. A CPA with decades of hands-on accounting experience and a former accounting professor at Regis University, Ron had seen the same problem repeat across every firm he’d worked with: proof-of-cash reconciliation. Tedious, time-consuming, and error-prone — every firm did it the same slow way, because no one had built a better alternative that practitioners would trust.
When Ron saw what AI could do with it, the opportunity was obvious. That was the wedge. QoEAgent was built around it.
Three Fields. One Thread.
Ron Neufeld — CPA, former accounting faculty at Regis University — brings deep, practical expertise in financial reporting, transaction analysis, and the operational reality of closing books under deadline pressure. From a client’s perspective, Ron’s knowledge is QoEAgent’s foundation.
Tom Yeh — PhD, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Colorado Boulder — brings the machine learning research and systems thinking to build AI tools that are accurate, explainable, and appropriate for professional use. He also teaches, which shapes how QoEAgent is built: with clarity and trust at the center, not just raw performance.
Josh Cashman — CFA, adjunct faculty at the University of Denver — spent his career in and around M&A both in a financial advisory role and as a business owner. He brings the perspective of someone who has worked on both sides of a transaction and understands what financial professionals actually need.
All three teach or have taught. That’s not incidental — it informs how QoEAgent is designed: precise, explainable, and built for people who know the underlying work.
The Right Moment
AI capable of professional-grade financial analysis at this level didn’t exist two years ago. What makes QoEAgent unusual isn’t just the technology — it’s the rare combination of people who understand both the AI and the accounting well enough to know where the edge cases are, what the profession will and won’t accept, and how to build something practitioners will actually trust.
We’re building while it’s still early.
